Family Fun in the Neighborhood

Summer is no time to be stuck at home! The Toluca Lake area has plenty to offer kids and their caretakers. From free library programs to in-home music sessions and luxury postpartum spa treatments, this list will help parents fill those long summer days with fun. (And if you really need to kill an hour, grab the rash guard and head to the interactive fountain located in Universal CityWalk. No judgments here!)

For Babies

Bini Birth in Sherman Oaks offers a variety of classes for new mothers and infants, including breastfeeding support groups and Mom + Baby Yoga. Their Wright Mommy & Me classes, for infants up to 12 months, are scheduled throughout the week, including that pre-bedtime witching hour of 5 to 6:30 p.m.

For Toddlers

Public libraries may shake up their regular storytime schedules for summer reading programs. At the Studio City Library, Wednesday morning storytime for ages 0 to 3 is consistent through the summer at 10:15 and 11:30. It’s popular, so arrive early!

For Big Kids

Drop off older kids for a creative CRAFTernoon at Gorilla Art in Burbank! Every Friday from 3:30 to 5 p.m., kids ages 5 to 12 can make a different craft and socialize for just $15. Parents are welcome to stay, too! Registering online beforehand secures a spot, but it’s not required.

For Parents

Spa Lé La in Tujunga Village is a parent’s oasis, offering a complimentary playroom for children 6 months to 9 years old. Their enticing menu of spa treatments includes postpartum epsom salt baths and private napping suites (for the adults!).

Enjoy a Parent’s Night Out with help from My Gym Toluca Lake. On select weekends, drop off kids ages 2 through 9 from 5 to 9 p.m. for hours of fun activities (and pizza!). Rates start at $35 for three hours.

For Playdates

For groups of eight kids or more, The BeatBuds bring a highly energetic 50-minute musical experience right into your home! The service is sold as four-week packages for ages 6 months to 6 years. This duo is only growing in popularity, so plan to book in advance.

Meet your friends at The Coop, a clean and cozy playspace in Studio City. While kids spend their energy on the two-story slide, electronic gaming floor and rope-climbing tunnel, caregivers can enjoy the free Wi-Fi, read a magazine and help themselves to cappuccino.

For an Air-Conditioned Nap

New babies and new movies don’t usually go together. But snacks, naps, feedings and screaming are all welcome at these weekly Parent-and-Me screenings:

  • Mondays at 11 a.m., Pacific Theatre at The Americana in Glendale
  • Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., Los Feliz 3 Cinemas

For a Special Family Night

The Verdugo Aquatic Facility in Burbank will soon be announcing its Annual Dive-In Movie event. Watch a family film while you float! Tickets are $5 (buy 3, get one free!). Make a special summer memory at The Front Yard in Studio City, where Sunday Family Nights include a three-course family-style meal and a classic family movie in the Beverly Garland Theater, priced at $60 for a family of four.
