Based on the amount of reader feedback we’ve received, our Pets of Toluca section is one of the most popular features of this magazine. Locals love sending us stories and pictures of their fuzzy companions enjoying life in the neighborhood, and we love receiving them (as I know from the frequent “aww”s emanating from our editorial department). We had so many wonderful dog tales lined up that it only made sense to celebrate the approaching “dog days” of summer with a special edition of Pets of Toluca. The 13 pups profiled include an Instagram influencer, yoga pros, inspirational rescues and, of course, our three canine cover stars. We’re grateful to the Goldstein family for participating wholeheartedly in this playful photoshoot that captures the joy of a summer evening at home in Toluca Lake. Special thanks to Robyn Allyn for finding us an exemplary family so full of love for their dogs and their community.
With the days at their longest and the sun at its brightest, we’re following the example of our four-legged friends by heading outside — and this area offers a wealth of ways to savor the outdoors in style. Whether you’re going to the Hollywood Bowl, hitting the beach, taking to the trails or relaxing in your own backyard, check out our guide to local sources for assembling an effortlessly awesome picnic spread. Also in this issue, we’re exploring idyllic restaurant patios and touring neighborhood drought-tolerant gardens. And to balance out all those summer barbecues, we’ve got a list of nearby places to run, hike, bike, ride, swim and work out in the fresh air.
As always, I encourage you to send me your feedback and ideas at publisher@tolucalake.com. We’re especially on the lookout for details about Toluca Lake’s incredibly rich history, so if you have vintage photos of the neighborhood, memories of bygone places and past events, or tips on stories that might be of interest, please let us know. In addition, now that we’ve gone canine-centric with this issue, the feline fans on our staff urge local cat owners to step up with cute kitten pics to even the score.
Don’t forget to connect with us on social media to share your thoughts, get updates on local happenings and see more of what we love about Toluca Lake every day. You can also visit TolucaLake.com for bonus articles, a business directory and our event calendar. And I welcome you to stop by our table and say hello during Toluca Lake’s National Night Out event on August 7! Until then, I hope you and your family members — both human and animal — enjoy this season to its fullest.
