In August, honorary Toluca Lake mayor Fritz Coleman and the rest of the team at NBC4/KNBC and Telemundo 52/KVEA helped over 14,000 homeless pets find their forever homes. The annual Clear the Shelters campaign, now in its fifth year, alleviates overcrowding at animal shelters across the Southland by raising awareness and offering affordable adoptions, part of a nationwide effort that has placed more than 406,500 pets with loving families since 2015. Coleman, Daniella Guzman, Adrian Arambulo, Robert Kovacik, Carolyn Johnson and other anchors spread the word through media appearances and visits to local shelters, including the Los Angeles Animal Services East Valley facility in Van Nuys, culminating in a $20 adoption drive on August 17.
