Bright and early on October 20, a group of neighborhood volunteers rolled up their sleeves and helped clear trash, weeds and debris from a stretch of Riverside Drive. The community cleanup was organized by the Toluca Lake Garden Club and co-hosted by the Greater Toluca Lake Neighborhood Council. Following in the footsteps of Shirley Duenckel, who has led local cleanups for the Garden Club for over 20 years, Kirith Prady spearheaded the event, with Amanda Reed serving as liaison with the GTLNC.
Volunteers cleaned their way up Riverside Drive, from Patys to á la Mutt, including the alleys between Clybourn and Sancola Avenues. They used tools and supplies donated by Councilmember David Ryu, whose field representative, Alice Roth, was on hand to assist volunteers. Everyone’s hard work was rewarded with food and refreshments donated from The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Sharky’s and The Counter.
Community members will have another opportunity to join in this civic improvement effort during the next cleanup event on January 19.
