Photos by Daniel Deitch

It’s a sharp contrast between the start of last year and this one, but Toluca Lake is hanging in there — picking up takeout and enjoying patio dining, stopping into shops and greeting neighbors through masks from a safe distance. We captured a few recent local scenes that lift our spirits and remind us that community life still finds creative ways of continuing. After all, as Hungry Crowd’s Michael Woo tells us, it’s those little details that make all the difference: “Customers’ smiles are what keep us going. With those smiles, we have a great future.”
