Lori King started her real estate journey with Ramsey-Shilling Associates in 1989, following closely in the footsteps of her mother, who was the firm’s top agent while King was a teenager. King hit the ground running in her career, earning rookie of the year right out of the gate. Three years later, she earned her GRI (Graduate of the Real Estate Institute) designation, followed by her broker’s license and certified residential specialist designation in 1992 and 1993, respectively. Today, she holds the distinction of being one of the firm’s consistent top producers. Every agent has to be under a broker; however, as a broker associate and manager, King is authorized to supervise other agents.
King’s drive to meet and exceed her clients’ expectations for the past 35 years is fueled by her love of the job. “My passion for real estate lies in my relationships with my clients and peers. I help people accomplish and achieve one of their biggest life goals,” she shares. “My duty is to relieve and take the stress out of buying and selling property. It’s my responsibility to make sure my clients are comfortable and stress-free (as much as possible) during their transaction. My experience allows me to aid my clients to confidently make wise decisions.”
King applies that ethic to all aspects of her work — which includes assisting her clients in purchasing new homes, investment/income properties and commercial leases — and it helps her adeptly handle any challenges that may arise in today’s fluctuating housing market. For example, in July 2022, when interest rates spiked and the market slowed but prices remained high, she steadily guided her clients through the buying process. “I have experienced multiple situations and obstacles, including varying degrees of the market,” she says. “I have overcome almost every situation and am always looking for a new one so that I will continually fine-tune my skills.”
As a longtime agent in Toluca Lake, King has extensive knowledge of the neighborhood and has seen it “grow from a small village to a booming hotspot that people love to come to, to walk the neighborhoods, admire the magical houses and savor fine dining. Toluca Lake has old-school charm, yet with a modern flair.”
King says she loves working with all types of properties in the area, from the small starter homes and bungalows to mid-centuries and palatial estates. “Each property has its own experience and tells its own story, as well as each client, from a first-time buyer to the seasoned investor,” she explains. She’s had the pleasure of working with affluent people on a one-to-one basis, as well as helping families and young professionals plan for their futures.
She has also handled numerous historic properties, including the Audie Murphy home at 4201 Toluca Road. “It was a pleasure to experience and feel the history that this estate embodied,” she says.
No matter what, clients can expect direct and honest communication from King at all times. “Each transaction is different, and my clients can trust that I will always do my best, in the most ethical manner, to help them to sell or buy a property,” she says. “I listen to my clients and am compassionate about their needs. I am always in search of the fair, win–win solution.”
“What I love most about real estate is meeting and helping people find their forever home. I get to help people realize what they can have,” she adds. “I love giving people the opportunity to see the different style homes and types of real estate and making what they want work for them.”
