In the wake of January’s catastrophic wildfires, the 17th annual Old-Fashioned Pancake Breakfast took on much deeper meaning for Toluca Lake. Organized by the Chamber of Commerce and hosted at Fire Station 86 on May 10, the event was a powerful symbol of recovery, togetherness and local pride.
“This year’s event was especially meaningful as it was our first major gathering following the devastating wildfires that impacted Los Angeles earlier this year,” Chamber president Taylor Montana says. “The turnout and support we received were a testament to the strength of our community.”
Approximately 600 attendees braved the unseasonably hot weather to enjoy all-you-can-eat pancakes, sausages and scrambled eggs served by local firefighters and volunteers. With more sponsors and silent auction items than ever before, the fundraiser reflected the generosity of residents and businesses alike. Among the most popular auction items were a set of exclusive Magic Castle tickets and a 48-hour Bentley rental experience. Proceeds from the event benefited the Widows, Orphans & Disabled Firefighter’s Fund.
Several meaningful moments stood out, including visits from LAFD Interim Fire Chief Ronnie Villanueva, newly elected U.S. Representative Luz Rivas and L.A. City Councilmember Adrin Nazarian. “Their presence underscored the importance of community solidarity,” Montana says. “Additionally, the moment of silence at 10 a.m. was particularly poignant, allowing us all to reflect and honor those affected by the recent wildfires.”
