Despite being abandoned as a kitten, now-1-year-old Zombie has grown into a confident, curious, deeply social cat with “big dog energy.” Playful, affectionate, smart and impossibly funny, she’s become something of a celebrity in her Toluca Lake apartment building, where neighbors check in on how she’s doing, leave their doors open hoping she’ll wander in and connect with each other through their love for her. She also serves as a lifeline for her guardian, helping him cope with anxiety by inspiring laughter, comfort, hope and a sense of purpose — showing that the animals we rescue often end up rescuing us in return.
