The Burbank Community Band will celebrate its 85th anniversary with The Sound of Burbank, a FREE concert at Burbank High School on April 12 at 2 p.m. The event will be hosted by Fritz Coleman, five-time Emmy-Award-winning standup comedian and former NBC weathercaster, who served the city for 40 years and is also the holder of a key to the City of Burbank.
More than 60 volunteer musicians will perform music that showcases Burbank, including its entertainment legacy, car culture and the band’s history with Lockheed Aircraft. The family-friendly program will include George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue and Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story, as well as selections from iconic Burbank studios such as Disney, Warner Brothers and NBC.
“This concert is not only a celebration of our 85-year legacy, but also a thank-you to the Burbank community for its incredible support throughout the years,” said Dr. Michael Stanley, conductor of the Burbank Community Band. “We are proud to share this milestone with our friends, families and neighbors, and we are thrilled to perform music that has become part of Burbank’s cultural fabric.”
