Sardo’s Grill and Lounge, the beloved neighborhood karaoke bar on North Pass Avenue, closed its doors on July 28 after nearly 50 years in business. Citing high rent and other costs as the cause, owner Seymour Satin said in a Facebook post, “I truly appreciate everyone that has come to Sardo’s over the years … I’d like to think I’ve had a part in developing an atmosphere where people feel relaxed and make friends. Sardo’s has become a family, bottom line, and that is what I’m proud of.”
Toluca Lake Magazine staffers are among those mourning the news. “I’ll miss the family karaoke and happy hour on Fridays at Sardo’s. It was truly one of my favorite things in the area,” says art director Chad Rooney. Art designer Adam Huntington adds, “As much as I love all the new and interesting restaurants and bars popping up around here, I was always thankful for the old standby, Sardo’s — a legendary place to share an affordable drink with locals, like being transported to another place and time.”
