Toluca Lake Magazine Issue Archive
Fall 2024
In our seventh annual History Issue, we continue our tradition of sharing the stories of our neighborhood’s past, highlighting the people and events that have shaped this area over the years. Our cover story offers an in-depth look at the life and extensive acting career of Linda Henning, best known for her role as Betty Jo Bradley in Petticoat Junction. The longtime local resident shares what it was like growing up in Toluca Lake and how the experience made a lasting impact on her both personally and professionally. We also profile the late Paul Allen Ramsey, a civic booster and business leader who co-founded Ramsey-Shilling Associates and the Toluca Lake Tennis Club. His son, Michael Paul Ramsey Jr., discusses his father’s legacy and how he helped form the neighborhood into what it is today. Additionally, we take a deep dive into the centuries-long saga of the Campo de Cahuenga, tracing its origins, its pivotal role in California’s statehood and its eventual recognition as a historic site, while shining a spotlight on the residents who advocated for its preservation.
