Summer 2026
This issue celebrates an array of recent events aimed at building community bonds and support for our neighbors — including block parties, food and blood drives and Toluca Lake’s first-ever LGBTQ+ Pride Festival — as well as other ways residents are turning personal passion into public good. And it wouldn’t be summer without a road trip, so we take you on an imaginative journey back to the wonderfully strange golden age of programmatic architecture in the 1920s and ’30s, when larger-than-life doughnuts, jack-o’-lanterns, beer kegs and a decommissioned airplane lined local streets.
When Exotic Architecture Dazzled the Eye
