Although signs of hope are glimmering now, it’s clear all the challenges of 2020 didn’t magically evaporate with a flip of the calendar page.

This is a holiday season unlike any other. Yet instead of dwelling on all we’ve lost and what looks different, it’s important to focus on what we still have and what will endure.

As we commemorate this magazine’s third anniversary with our yearly history issue, I’ve been reflecting on what the past can tell us during these troubled times.

We’re faced with the question of how to cover neighborhood news and lifestyle when events are canceled, many businesses are closed to the public and residents are sheltering in place.

Life in our community and the wider world has been utterly transformed since I sat down to write my Publisher’s Message for the March/April issue of Toluca Lake Magazine just a few weeks ago.

As spring arrives and the outdoors beckons, this is the perfect moment to launch our collaboration with Toluca Lake Beautification Partners, the group that’s been hard at work enhancing our public spaces.
